I'm starting to wonder if I'm being taken advantage of. I've been at this serving job for about 5mo now, and I'm wondering if this is normal, or if I'm being taken advantage of. I have a manager who--whenever I'm working an evening shift and she's the closing manager--keeps me later than what I would be working if my other managers were closing. Evening shifts start at 4 or 5 and end at 9 or 10 respectively. However, without fail, whenever she closes, I won't be cut until midnight, of not later.
Once closing tasks are posted, I like to get a jump on some of the group closing tasks, such as bussing and cleaning salsa jars, as these are the most time consuming and we are expected to start these once closing tasks are posted. I'll finish my portion of these tasks and report back to her and she'll either ignore me, or tell me to begin my own closing tasks--this van range from checking the bathrooms to closing down statoins. Once I'm finished with these, I theoretically should be finished, but she'll add another task on...and then another...and then another.
What I've started doing is completing these BEFORE she asks me, so that they're already done. Not only does this irritate her, but she snarkily asked one time "Do you want to do this last thing for me since it seems like you want to get up out of here?"
Not only that, when she DOES pile extra tasks on me, she'll rub my arm and ask "Is everything okay?" or "Are you all right?" It bothers me when she does this becuse it comes off as condescending and insincere.
Tonight is a perfect example. Closing tasks are posted at 9, and it's after 11 and they haven't been posted yet.. On top of that, she's cut the bartenders, who under other managers, are the last to leave. (I'm still here. It is just me, her and the closer.)
So...am I just being crazy? Or am I being taken advantage of?
