Would you rather BE tipped 3% of sales or 10% of tips? I recently was lucky enough to get a job at a fancy place. They tip 10% off tips for my position but there’s a lot of room for growth into a back server position and with wine training, a server position. I’d be working around 40 hours a week and be paid minimum wage.
With my current job, im working around 25 hours a week but I am also paid $8.50 over minimum wage. Having done the math I would be making roughly the same amount of money as this potential new gig in base pay. (I’m also not receiving anywhere near 3% in tips due to covid thus the $8.50 bump)
Does it make more sense to stay where I am since I’d be making roughly the same amount of (base) money while working less hours or do I risk going out of my comfort zone and try this new place?
I have to decide today so any help/industry insight would be much appreciated thank you!!
