Restaurants with shift changes SUCK.

Post Body

So, I work evenings at a restaurant that's open all day, so there's a shift change. I showed up at 3, and the floor pan for the shift change wasn't done, so I go sit in the break room. I go back out to check every few minutes, and am not put on the floor plan for 15 minutes. So, when I finally get a section, a party had been sat but is now taken. That's a party I missed out on because of the management not being prepared for second shift, so that was incredibly irritating and it happens a lot. I showed up on time, ready to work, but didn't get my first table until an hour later.

Meanwhile, the manager is yelling at people who've showed up for second shift to either run food or buss tables if we're on her clock. I just kept going to the break room to sit down and play on my phone. I'm not about to clean everyone's tables and run everyone's food for $2/hour, sorry. If she didn't schedule a busser or food runner, it should not become my job for free. She has also been down our throats about upselling to customers, and I even overheard her telling the other managers we might start being punished if we don't sell enough???

One girl in particular was complaining the entire shift about wanting to go, even though she was scheduled until closing time. Then, when it comes to doing her side work and cleaning her tables so we actually CAN leave, she disappears. We left 20 mins late because of her. The shift was slowish, but I made okay money. I'm just seriously burnt out on the place I work for. I actually just transferred to this location because I was fed up with different issues at my previous location. Maybe they all just suck ass.

First shift is usually busier than second shift. Often, first shift servers leave without sweeping their tables or filling their salts & peppers, and it's easy for them to get away with it because if my table gets sat, they can't disturb the customers. So, they get to show up, make tons of money, then dip out. Meanwhile, my manager was looking at every single salt & pepper shaker and having us fill them again before we were allowed to leave because a quarter inch was missing...there's just a huge imbalance of accountability between shifts. Maybe I should apply to places that only have 1 shift?
