Iā€™ve been at this restaurant for ~ 2 months now. I have served before but this place is a completely different ballgame than to the last place I worked at so itā€™s been a hard adjustment. but Iā€™ve been putting in the work to get better and earn my coworkersā€™ respect. I learned everyoneā€™s names, the hostesses, the bussers, the cooks (a lot of servers donā€™t bother because they think theyā€™re above boh non servers), I pick up everyoneā€™s shifts even if they call out the day of. not trying to paint myself as a saint, I fuck up!! I make mistakes, I know Iā€™m far from being the best server but Iā€™m fucking trying!!! there are people who take 1001 smoke breaks, who straight up tell managers theyā€™re not coming in THE DAY OF because they donā€™t feel like it, who pick fights with customers. these arenā€™t one time offenses either, but the most they get? a stern talking to. Iā€™ve never seen anyone get fired, Iā€™ve never even heard someone offhandedly mention an ex coworker who got fired.

today was obviously an insane friday night, I made a mistake. someone asked for medium well steak, I accidentally put in a medium rare. I donā€™t feel like chasing down a manager to void my mistake (and risk getting yelled at) so I just ask one of the cooks to do me a favor and cook it medium well instead, he agrees to it but the head chef overheard and didnā€™t like this. he said ā€œyou put in medium rare, you take medium rare to customerā€. we have a full house and online orders coming in, why the fuck would I bring out the wrong order on purpose just to get it sent back and have the table wait at least 30 minutes for a new steak?? I tell him thatā€™s ridiculous and he walks out of the restaurant. word gets around that Iā€™m the reason he left, the story gets twisted to I put in the whole tableā€™s order wrong, not just one personā€™s, and asked the cook to fix it. now people are coming up to me calling me a dumbass, how the hell did I put in spaghetti when they asked for a steak (never happened). Iā€™m venting to one of my friends, I tell her I need a day off from this restaurant and either my manager was in the vicinity or someone overheard and snitched because very soon after, I got pulled aside and was told that I was being a baby for wanting to take off, I canā€™t blame other people for my mistakes (I never did) and threatened to fire me if I didnā€™t come to my next shift.

Iā€™m at my witā€™s end. Iā€™m tired of people tearing me apart for making mistakes while they laugh at their own. or they donā€™t notice they made one because I saved their ass. Iā€™m tired of management refusing to fire incompetent workers so they donā€™t have to waste time hiring and training new people. Iā€™m just sick of all of it!!!
