I’ve talked with a couple of people in recent weeks about concrete steps we can take towards making the world a better place. We both agreed that reimagining the school system is a potential step we can take, as educating younger generations is majorly influential on the future. However, they did not agree with me when I stated that we must teach kids to value themselves. They would avoid saying it explicitly, because it obviously doesn’t sound good, but they made their opinion quite obvious. They were clearly against teaching people to value themselves. In addition to being against self worth, they were against teaching about community, love, connection, and other things along those lines. I personally think that these things are extremely important in creating a fulfilling life and healing the world, and they should be taught in schools. But obviously there are a lot of people who disagree. Am I missing something? What do you guys think we should be teaching in schools? What should we be teaching kids to value? Do you even think the current school system needs to change?
