Social Media Trends (SMT's as I'll call them) seem to be replications of real life, as if we cant live in real time anymore, as if we can no longer relate to "normal", so instead, like narcissist, we imitate what "normal" or "goodness" looks like, by doing the newest SMT. Instagram had a trend that involved influencers, who obviously are of higher social status, imitating "normal" life, and dressing in what they considered to be an average middle class person. Why are we imitating real life, when we can just live in real life? If there never was a video of people in Italy, having concerts out of their balcony or of a town clapping, would other videos have surfaced, or are people just replicating these videos for others to see, in-which these people believe they're doing these things out of some respect for the people they're applauding too, but really they're doing it because its viral right now, and people want to be a part of something. Yes, one could say "Even if they are replicating "goodness", why stop them, they're helping people?", and you're right, its like religious people helping because god tells them to, even though their motivation is sketchy, they're still helping people. Its definitely an odd phenomenon that needs to be further explored.
