Excuses for self harm scar? Also why does it look like this? (no pics, just description)

I don't feel comfortable posting pics of myself, so I'l just be describing what the scar looks like.
It's on my arm, horizontal, and it changes colors. Sometimes it looks white or light pink and is barely noticeable. Other times, it looks bright red and it kind of looks like sh. When I'm cold, it looks purple and blurry. It's not just lighting. Why does it do that?
Based off of that description, what could I tell people what it is?
