So I pre-ordered the game and played it as soon as it launched at midnight. Since then I've completed the game and have gotten all 4 endings. I'm not an achievement hunter so I haven't gotten all the achievements but I've played the game for over 100 hours and I'm currently doing a demon bell walkthrough right now. In short I've played this game a decent amount and now that a good amount of time has passed I think I can talk about sekiro's legacy and how I feel about it.
So when I first got the game I expected it to give me a challenge similar to something like ninja gaiden 2 and while the game was hard and I died over 100 times in my first playthrough it failed to give me that challenge. That is a good thing because anyone who's player ninja gaiden 2 can tell you that the game is very unfair while sekiro is fair and the enemies are bound by the same ruleset that you are for the most part. While the story isn't amazing and the lore has nothing on dark souls I still found it interesting and I appreciate the little nuances that fromsoft left open for interpretation. It made the characters feel human and I felt that there was only one true villain throughout the story and I think you all know who I'm talking about. All in all the game is really good and deserves to be game of the year and the only way it wouldn't win that is if dmc5 does.
However, this game isn't built to last. While the game has some of the best combat I've ever experienced in a game it has the worst replayability in a game that I've ever played. After a while the game gets comically easy and becomes a chore because you start to notice the monotony that the game has to offer. This is a product of the control scheme and the lack of a move list in fromsoft games. Before it wasn't really noticed because you had a variety of weapons but the kusabi-maru is a generic weapon that perfectly fits this generic mold of a character and this game will be forgotten in 5 years. It's a shame to because the flaws the game has could be ironed out in a sequel or spiritual successor but since we haven't gotten any news about it that possibility seems unlikely. Don't get me wrong the game is a 9/10 but I'm not gonna ride this game's nuts and pretend it's the best game with the longest longevity because that is simply untrue.
