So my gf and I have been living together for quite some time. However we have been in a different school district than her 11 year old goes to. Both parents don't want him switching schools, so she's been listed as living at her moms house.

Recently I lost my job and I have not had any luck whatsoever securing a new job. I've had interviews, but no one hires me. I've been doordashing until I can find something.

We also have an 11 month old together. Our landlords are becoming irritated in the fact that we can't pay our rent on time (for the past 3 or 4 months) we are usually a week or 2 behind. We are at risk of either being evicted or not being able to renew our lease (in 3 months)

We want to apply for section 8 housing, but with her being listed at her mom's, would that pose an issue? Or could we get her address changed and then apply afterwards? I just don't want her getting in trouble if they realize hey, she's listed at her moms, and now all of a sudden she's at this address.

Any thoughts or tips here? Can we safely apply?
