The signatures gatherers are out in force for I-1600, a measure that "would require establishment of a comprehensive state program to pay for healthcare for all Washington residents by November 2019, funded by premiums and taxes on employers, individual income, and capital gains."
They claim that it would:
- result in savings of more than $9 BILLION in healthcare costs for Washington state residents.
- cover you regardless of your employment status.
- Eliminate deductibles and co-pays
- Reduce costs for 90-95% of Washington residents.
It will be funded by a 1% Income Tax after a $15,000 exemption, an 8.5% tax on Long-Term Capital Gains over $15,000 (exempting Home Sales, Farm Income, and Retirement Accounts), an 8.5% Payroll Tax (with some exemptions for those making less than $60k per year), and a $0-$200 monthly premium depending on your income level.
Would you support this if it makes it to the ballot? Why or why not?
