Following on the coattails of the earlier post about "places we'd rather waterboard ourselves than step food into again" and a comment about biscuits in town, I thought I'd start a thread about where in tarnation we can find the best biscuits in Seattle. I'll mention 5 places to start. Anybody else, please, feel free to chime in with your own opinions.
Biscuit Bitch: Highly overrated biscuits. They're dry. The top reminds me of those awful freezer biscuits I once bought at the behest of my friends. The tops are nice and brown but the biscuit doesn't have any rise or fluffiness to it. They crumble and not in a good way. The interior is dry like they've been set onto the counter for days on end. Don't let that brown top deceive you; the biscuit isn't actually cooked well. It's just...bland. I do, however, get a chuckle out of the staff calling me a bitch. That's fun.
Morsel: These biscuits are one of the better biscuits I've had in town. They're flaky while also being slightly moist inside. They don't have a caky texture. The top is slightly toasted and brown while having that delicious buttery flavor. I don't recommend all the fanciful flavours of biscuits. I go for the basic plain with egg and cheese.
Geraldines Counter: This place is a bit out of the way for most people in Seattle as it's all the way down in Columbia City. I rather enjoy these biscuits. A lot. They're flaky and have a high rise to them. They hold up well to an aggressive buttering/jamming. The flavour is simple and doesn't overpower any of the other tastes added to it. Edit: there are multiple people who say this place is inconsistent. I suppose I’ve only been on their food days!
Ballard Coffee Company: Just looking at these biscuits you get the impression they're divine. You can see the layers of baked in buttery goodness just waiting to give your mouth a taste of heaven. I think they even use real buttermilk in their biscuits (none of that milk/vinegar combo some places try to get away with) and, if you've ever had a true buttermilk biscuit, you know what I'm talking about. Get there early or you'll miss out because everyone else seems to know about this place too. Their fried chicken biscuit is one that I might consider killing my own Southern Methodist Granny for.
Honest Biscuits: Honestly, I don't know why everyone in this town continues to fawn over Tom Douglas restaurants. His places have a lot of novelty flavours but in a biscuit, I want it to be buttery, able to absorb a lot more butter and jam and not crumble all over me. These biscuits are flat, dry, and I just don't like them. I didn't like them when they were over on Westlake and I don't like them now either. Edit: I assumed this was owned by Tom Douglas. If I remember correctly they shared space with Serious Pie a zillion years ago and I wasn’t living in Seattle when they moved to the new location. My bad, y’all.
