Seattle Roommate Laws Question

Post Body

My partner and I are moving to Seattle for my job at the beginning of July. We are having difficulty getting approved for an apartment because he has an eviction from 6 years ago (he has made a lot of progress since then and now generally has decent credit). I on the other hand make enough money to get approved for an apartment on my own, and have perfect rental history. So, after researching Seattle’s tenant laws, I learned an immediate family member can be added to a household with 30 days' notice. While they may be screened, they cannot be denied occupancy. The law defines an immediate family member as "persons 16 years of age or older who are presently residing together or who have resided together in the past and who have or have had a dating relationship," which applies to my partner and me. My plan is to apply for an apartment on my own and then use this provision to add him 30 days after I move in. Has anyone else used this law successfully, or run into trouble trying to utilize this provision?
