Growing up, monte cristos were on pretty much every American restaurants' menu. It was a default sandwich, kind of. Now they're few and far between, but it's one of the best sandwiches there are.
I was just in Alaska and had a great one. I had a great on in Albuquerque, too. Other cities have them, where is Seattle's?
And by great I mean made the right way. I had one at a bar in Renton awhile back that was just a turkey, ham, and cheese sandwich on french toast, but that's not right. You assemble the sandwich, batter the whole thing, and then fry it. That's what seals in the melted cheese and the juices from the meats.
Anyone know where I can get a proper monte cristo?
