Captains Log - Jan 12, 1467
Cap. Slap of the Maidens Blade.
The sweat begins to soak every article of clothing on my body, one wrong move could mean certain death. Bound and chained with seemingly no escape, I analyze every possible option... and all seem bleak. I see Bob at the window looking in anxiously. I jerk my neck as if to wave him off...If the quartermaster sees him it'll be the gallows for both of us. Finally, I muster all the courage I have and make my move. Carefully I take once last look at the quartermaster and am flooded with the emotions that put me in this position... and why such a beautiful lass would settle down with a Bilge Rat like me. Carefully I grab the arm she has draped over me, lift it and begin to move it back to her side of the bed. With a quick jerk and a snore, she rolls over to her side of the bed... Freedom! Quickly I make my way out of the cabin to Bob, "You got the poles Bob?!" "Aye cap... and enough bait to catch every fish in the sea!" "Good man, Bobbo. Lets get on with it!" The Boys are going fishing to the Devils Roar.
The Rumors of the Devils Roar are mostly true. Aye, the water is kissed by dragons breath. Aye, The dragons that live in the mountains spit unholy fire when ships break through their waters. Aye, the air smells of the devils anus. Aye, the Ashen Lords are some of the toughest skelly's raised by black magic... But let me tell you... the FISH! The fish are bigger, tougher, and more beautiful than any scaly bastard in any other part of the sea! And if you ask me, the best part of all of it is they practically come out cooked the water is so warm!
The best part of the roar is the waters are quite. Not to many ships come down this direction because the odds are good that the Ashen dragon will take it from you with it's unholy fire. Everyone knows that the "Ashen Dragon" is a tall tale, but it's cooler than saying there is 1001 ways to light your boat on fire. We adjust our heading SE to the black beaches of the Burning Sands Island. Stitcher Jim claims there is a monster stormfish that lives off the North shore, and I intend on catching it. We anchor the Blade off shore, load up the rowboat and head to the atoll.
The day seems to fly by and not a word said between the two of us, a Good day we would call it. Sitting on the beach we observed plenty of the Roars natural beauty. A Volcano erupted on the horizon, a Gyser nearly destroyed our rowboat. Worst part of that would have been losing all the rum. Despite all of the Roar's efforts, we managed to fill the bilge full of fish! "Aye Bobbo, it's time we head to the Seaport to sell these fish... we'll cook one or two for the journey!" We pack up camp, ready the ship, Set a bearing to the North West and head to the nearest Seaport.
It's hard to tell the difference between night and day down in the Roar, but being on the water as many years as I have, you develop a 6th sense for it. We see the familiar smoke stack of the Seaport and prepare the ship to slow for docking. On the deck is Merrik, A seasoned hunter, and master stalker known throughout the Sea of Thieves for his Hunting accomplishments. 200 yards from the dock and we hear the first crash. The primal cracking of earth under extreme heat... the Volcano just to the south is erupting. The shockwave knocks both Bob and I to the deck as I fall I make the mistake of holding onto the wheel and send us into a spin. Before I can get up and readjust, A flaming boulder is screaming through the evening air and rips through our sail and crashes into our hull. Everything it touches is set aflame from the molten lava. The fire on the deck begins to spread faster than we can initially react. "No no no! NOT NOW!" I scream as Bob and I begin to frantically scoop water and douse the flames. Right when we start to get ahead of it, another lava ball crashes into the hull, this one bigger than the last. "OH COMEON!" Spinning and burning on the water just outside the Seaport, we probably looked a couple of fools to anyone watching, and now I'm going to have to pay Merrik a little extra to keep his mouth shut about this.
In all the commotion, we never heard the other crew approaching, we were too concerned with keeping the Blade afloat to keep an eye out for pirates. Like a said before... we were a flaming beacon. 3 of em, two skinny fellows decked in Ashen ware and 4 teeth between em, and a big fat guy. The snuck up in a brig, boarded the Blade and put guns to our backs. Said we had two choices.. Let them have all the loot or die. We had a moderate amount on board just from pure circumstance... and we offered it to them without hesitation. That's when the fat one really showed his worth... with a big sniff he made his way below deck to the mess station and grabbed the salt barrel packed with the freshly cooked catch. "Look, I get out of the house One day.. away from the Old lady for the first time in I don't know how long. My buddy and I have had a great day fishing and drinking.. TAKE the loot... Have the rest of the Rum... JUST LEAVE THE FISH!" I shout at them but it's no use the Ashen pirates speak a different tongue. The big one puts the barrel down on their rowboat, makes his way back up and ties Bob and I to the burning mast. One of the little skinny ones says in broken English, "The burns are good for ya eh!" and goes down to the rowboat laughing. The Ashen rats row to their brig and head to the North. "Aye Bobbo. A pirates life for me, eh?"
"Aye cap." He says.
"Did you at least try some of the fish?"
"Aye. I did."
"Was it good?"
"Aye. It was."
"Good."
TL;DR - Buddy and I collected a HAUL of fish to sell to the hunters call, we get right next to a seaport and get nearly decimated by a Volcano. During the chaos another crew kills us, sinks the ship and takes our loot. I wasn't even bitter about the loot, it was all the fish/meat we lost! ha... we did come back and sink them.. recovered 1/2 our initial loot haul.. so not a total loss...
