Newly pregnant, and curious what everyone feels about gender reveal parties. Personally Iām not sure how I feel about it
I definitely think of them as a cishet culture thing, but Iām not offended. I didnāt do one and Iām not interested in doing one if I or a coparent get pregnant again, personally, but I wouldnāt not go if it was a friend.
Mostly, I just havenāt wanted to deal with people, mostly heterosexuals, going either āoh, heās such a boy such a strong man brave ladykiller got a little girlfriend manly boy maleā or āoh, sheās such a feminine delicate little teensy thing but sheās probably got a ton of little boyfriends at daycareā¦.ā You get the idea. People where I grew up were real weird about small children of indeterminate gender. So I donāt emphasize my kidās sex.
Your choice, though. Iām trying to stay away from sort of assigning my kid agender of birth. Like I want them to know that they can stillā¦ be cis, lol, if they are. So there are pros and cons to both.
