Newly pregnant, and curious what everyone feels about gender reveal parties. Personally Iā€™m not sure how I feel about it

I definitely think of them as a cishet culture thing, but Iā€™m not offended. I didnā€™t do one and Iā€™m not interested in doing one if I or a coparent get pregnant again, personally, but I wouldnā€™t not go if it was a friend.

Mostly, I just havenā€™t wanted to deal with people, mostly heterosexuals, going either ā€œoh, heā€™s such a boy such a strong man brave ladykiller got a little girlfriend manly boy maleā€ or ā€œoh, sheā€™s such a feminine delicate little teensy thing but sheā€™s probably got a ton of little boyfriends at daycareā€¦.ā€ You get the idea. People where I grew up were real weird about small children of indeterminate gender. So I donā€™t emphasize my kidā€™s sex.

Your choice, though. Iā€™m trying to stay away from sort of assigning my kid agender of birth. Like I want them to know that they can stillā€¦ be cis, lol, if they are. So there are pros and cons to both.
