The Premise:
A 6-episode mini season, with each being a stand-alone story (but featuring a handful of main characters) – think ‘monster of the week’ episodes from The X-files. I see the show being quite dark/horror-like but there would be room for some lighter moments. I like the idea of the setting being a made-up town and not something ever spoken to as to where it actually is on the map (in the US/UK or wherever), which should also allow stories to take their own shape and not always have to be based in reality.
The Plot:
The main character would be a female ex-law enforcement officer, who took earlier retirement after the trauma of discovering her ex-partner’s mutilated body during an investigation. Since she left her job, she married and settled down and became a housewife but things at home are less than perfect. She ends up being pulled back into the law when an ex-colleague asks for her help in investigating the case of a missing officer, which closely resembles the details of her dead ex-partner’s case. Begrudgingly, she agrees to get involved and this is how we start...
The Season:
Over the course of 6 episodes we would find the main character investigating some very dark and traumatic cases. She’ll end up being partnered with a younger/inexperienced officer, who she is expected to train up. Their relationship is difficult and takes times before either one trusts the other. We will discover more about the main character’s past and also see how her passion is reignited once she is back in the force and investigating these cases.
Town:
I’ve got it in my head that the town will be called Goose Island and would almost be a kind of Buffy Hell Mouth. There’s something not right about the town, the people in it and the local law enforcement who perhaps are trying to cover some of these things up.
Your Help?
I’m hoping to get some people onboard who like the premise and would be interested in helping to come up with and write some of the stories. To help develop the characters and make this something an TV network might be interested in making.
Ideally, I’d love to plot out the 6 episodes first, deciding on what stories to tell and then how our main characters will be involved in each one.
This is at a really early stage currently so it’s a great opportunity to get involved and have your say and help develop the characters and the idea of the show.
It would be cool to have people writing individual episodes and then once a draft is written, others in the team can jump in with their ideas to help with the next draft or two, so it’s a collaboration.
If you’re fans of shows like The X-files/Black Mirror and the above is interesting to you then please get in touch. I need creative thinkers and people who enjoy writing.
