First of all, I'm English (I know, boo hiss get of the stage.
It's always been a dream of mine to visit Scotland one day. Train fair or driving up is very expensive from southern England. Luckily this Summer I am on holiday in Northumberland and forced myself to get the train to Edinburgh.
At first I was very nervous being somewhere new, I have mental health issues and travelled alone. I walked out of Edinburgh Station and onto Princes Street where the vibe of the city hit me. The scenery of the castle is amazing, there was so much to look at.
I had around 7 hours to kill and spent most of that time in the rectangular area around the castle. I even hopped on the bus up to the Toll shopping centre which was a great experience, a bus system that actually works.
Near the end of my experience, I walked through the old town, took a wrong turn and ended up in a street full of performers. The whole street was buzzing with hundreds of people. I got approached by many people inviting me to shows but I had to decline as my anxiety got the better of me. Although I have to say the culture is fantastic!
Everyone I saw was very respectful, kind and helpful, definitely something I am not used to. At the end of my trip I decided to head to the station early as I was worn out. As I got nearer I heard the amazing noise of a band playing in the street. Ended up spending my last minutes watching Ol'Times performing!
Edinburgh is much better City than London, without question. London is shit hole in comparison. I am definitely returning in the future and holiday there next year!
