I just got a scorpion from petsmart on Thursday. They have her away because Wednesday they went to feed her and saw she had babies and she couldnt be sold anymore. I wanted scoprions in a casual "that would be cool" kind of way, so I decided to take her and help her raise the babies the best I can, rehome most of them and keep maybe 5 (including mom)
She's currently in a 20L with plenty of space to burrow in the future, places to hide under, and moss covering the floor in case the babies drop off and start hiding to avoid being popcorn.
I have no real idea what I'm doing, but my only rewal question is how often do I feed her to avoid her snacking on her children while they're on her back? I plan on separating when they start dropping off, but I want to avoid casualties.
And assuming everyone is well fed, how many can be kept in a 20L? I read adults just need 5 gallons. (End game question whej im down to my last few not important for right now)
Feeding info is most inoperable to me Because I've killed my tarantula because multiple people told me to feed it one cricket a day. The guilt ate me alive because I thought I got her husbandry wrong. I learned from a friend a year later I feed her to death. I somehow felt worse. I don't want that to happen ever again.
I got her Thursday and gave her a small cricket I killed
Friday I have her a superworm I killed because I was worried the cricket wasn't enough. There's so much conflicting info. Feed once a week. Feed as much as possible after giving birth. Feed until they refuse. Don't Feed until they refuse they'll die. 😵💫 I want to feed her again because I'm sure she's starving having over 20 babies.
Thanks!
