A lot of romance has what I will tentatively term "schrodingers fertility"- neither contraception nor the risk of pregnancy are ever mentioned explicitly, but lots of sex happens, and pregnancy occurs or does not occur as the author finds convenient.
Are there any science fiction books (maybe alt hist or even fantasy) that, as their central theme, actually explore the sociological, cultural, and personal consequences of inventing/introducing widespread reliable contraception into a setting that doesn't have it before....
...While ALSO having romance and/or lots of graphic sex scenes? Any books or even short stories that try to do both? Where a medieval peasant woman is able to have sex without fear for the first time in her life, or something like that. A book that tries to be 'serious' sociological science fiction and a good erotic romance at the same time?
Would anybody else even be interested in a story like this?
