Do kids shows with only nonverbal characters affect language skills?

I have a 4 year old step daughter who is quite a bit behind with language. Yesterday she was watching a lot of a show called "booba", which had a full cast of characters who didn't speak at all and only made grunting noises, and it has me wondering if shows that that can contribute to issues with language development?
There's a lot of kids shows I've been exposed to via my stepdaughter that have the same theme of no characters actually speaking, only communicating through grunts and other noises. Is there any info out there on whether or not they are correlated with speech delays?
