Surgery Saga
Post Body

I've been in an ongoing debacle with my spine for nearly 4 months now. I had a discectomy to take care of 2 herniations in my lumbar spine on my left side in early December, and a follow up emergency surgery the day after Christmas for a fluke re-herniation on my right side. I had massive complications from that surgery including sepsis from a rare bacteria (Serratia marcescens) that lodged in my surgery site.

I'm almost a month out from that surgery and still in a ton of pain. Has anyone else had an experience like this? I've been told it could be lingering infection (I'll be on strong antibiotics for the next several weeks) in my surgical site, but this is starting to feel a bit like it could be a re-herniation. But it's so difficult to say because the pain is so inconsistent.

Once I am up and moving, I do pretty ok. And certain chairs feel pretty ok too, but laying down makes my legs and back feel so fragile. Getting up from laying down is crazy difficult and hurts like you would not believe. At the same time, a good night's sleep is one of the few things I notice helps the pain decrease. So it feels like an unbelievably crappy catch 22.

I have no idea if anyone can relate to any of this but this saga seems to be never ending and I am struggling to get answers. I'll take what I can get.
