I want to thank u/shuffle-chips-cake for creating the below linked post and suggesting we create a subreddit around the practice of reading scary movie** plots even though you have no intention of watching them.
(**I'm using "scary movie" as an umbrella term for horror, thriller, gore, etc. here.)
I'm not really sure how this group will work and I have not had success starting subs in the past so any ideas are much appreciated. Obviously we can look up most scary movies on Wikipedia or IMDB, but this could be a place to discuss scary movies we haven't watched, or if we have less scared guests who have seen the movies they could give details.
Maybe we will also talk about why we don't watch scary movies, times we've watched them and regretted it (I know I've had nightmares or had to sleep with the light on for weeks), and...add your ideas below.
We might also want to think about what rules we need for the sub. The first one that comes to my mind is no pressuring anyone to watch a scary movie and respect people's choices about the content they choose to view. This is primarily a place for people who do not like to actually watch scary movies, and I hope we wouldn't get any bullying or antagonism from horror movie enthusiasts, but it only takes a few to ruin it for everyone.
Another rule might just be - assume there will be spoilers here. Don't come to this sub expecting not to be spoiled about any possible scary movie or show (or even book?).
Again, please weigh in on your thoughts on possible rules including what I've suggested. And anything else you can think of for the sub, like flairs we could have.
And to get us started meeting one another, how about we share 1 or 2 scary movies we have seen against our better judgment that were a good reminder of why we don't like to watch these things. For me I can think of The Ring and Wrong Turn. I also saw just a brief clip of It as a child - the scene where the clown head is in the shower drain - and had trouble with showering for a long time after that. No thanks!
Looking forward to meeting other Scaredy Cats!
