So I was searching for r4r posts on my alt account, as ya do, and I stumbled across this weird subreddit called r/bootyr4r. It consisted of a bot trawling r/r4r and posting links there under the guise of the OPs looking for sex, even if what they explicitly stated they were looking for was platonic. This rabbit hole goes deeper; every post had an automod comment linking to a separate site with the domain name bootyr4r.com, and also linking to a (probably fake) escort list or something. Even more suspicious, however, was the mod accounts that weren't bots were all extremely active on crypto subreddits, such as r/Bitcoin. Unfortunately for the curious investigators among us, the sub was banned because the mods were all suspended, but a new sub serving the exact same purpose was made called r/AssSpace; same trawling r/r4r, same link to bootyr4r.com, same suspicious mod activity. This has been lingering in the back of my mind for months; was this an elaborate scam? What kind of scam was it?
