I unfortunately fell victim to a rental listing scam, losing $550in the process. I found an apartment listing on Facebook and contacted a "broker" who claimed to work for a reputable real estate firm. After submitting an application and paying a $50 fee, I researched the firm and found it to be legitimate. However, after sending a $500 security deposit, the broker disappeared.
I have contacted PayPal and my bank, but they are unable to help. The real estate firm did not seem concerned when I reached out to them. I believe the broker was impersonating the firm. Should I involve the police? Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.
