What's the scam angle behind the reddit-DM requests from apparent-bot accounts?

Profile created Feb 3, 2024. Karma 1 post / 0 comment. A handful of posts and thread comments. Could theoretically be an actual human doing the typing but not necessarily. Likeliest crossover might've been a comment of genuine encouragement that I made within the last 8-12 hrs or so on a dating-app subreddit. Not an obvious OF content purveyor.

Is it really potentially as simple and mundane as spreading seeds on an organic bot-army sleeper cell type deal? (No I did not choose to accept the "Hello" dm.)
