I got in an auto accident over a year ago. Bills all went through my insurance and I paid all my part. Then this week I get a letter from a collection service saying I owe money from a bill from AMR. I called AMR directly. They couldn't tell me why the bill had gone to a collection service when I or my insurance had never been sent the bill first. They asked for all my personal stuff and my insurance info, and then asked for social security numbers for me and my wife who is the primary on the insurance. I refused giving them SSN's and they kept pressing for them. It seemed way sketchy.
After, I called the collection service to notify them that the origin company were processing my insurance. The collection agent got real pushy wanting me to give him insurance info, and he also asked for SSN's. Nothing about the conversation seemed legit. Too sketchy. I refused giving them any personal info.
So apparently AMR doesn't bother to actually send bills out. They just send everything straight to a collection company and screw up my credit. The whole thing seems like a scam. How is this legal?
