I was talking to my friend about how i feel bad about stripping all the nature around me to fuel biomass burners and then later building massive coal factories with huge smoke stacks. We were also talking about how you could even make a good story for a game about factory optimization.
It got me thinking that it would be super cool to have a story that was focused around the idea of stripping the planet and then fixing it before it was too late. Mostly the introduction of pollution as a major gameplay mechanic. So you have a meter that slowly starts to fill the moment you start pumping out CO2. You start to see vegetation either change color or start to die off. Animals start to get more aggressive, the water starts to get dirtier, ect.
As it stands, the game doesn't have a end game. So if the end game was about fixing the damage you've caused already. That would be awesome. Such as researching green energies or things like CO2 scrubbers or some kind of mega project that used all the space elevator materials you've made so far. Have the mega project be something that fixed the pollution meters so that it started to fall.
Just a neat thought. Anyone else got cool story ideas?
