1200 iron = 1700 iron using trucks

I am trying to get into transports and stuff in my first play through. I set up 4 mk2 miners all over clocked to 300 iron per minute giving a total of 1200 per minute. I put 600 in 2 truck stations each because my fastest belt is 480 right now so I can't put it all into one. After setting up my truck route and letting it drive I was surprised to find it was delivering well over 1200 iron per minute. It was able to fill almost 4 480 belts even though it should only be 2.5 480 belts. Can anyone help me understand what I did wrong?
