On September 14th, there will be a recall election that’ll determine if Governor Newsom stays in office, or is replaced by someone else (most likely a Republican). Turnout is expected to be low, so your vote will be very important!
To vote in this election, you must register to vote by August 30th. You can register to vote or check your registration here. If you miss this deadline, you can register and vote in person at a same-day registration location up until Election Day.
Ballots will have two questions. The first question is asking if Governor Newsom should be recalled and removed from office. Vote “yes” if you want him removed from office; vote “no” if you do not. The second question is who should become Governor if Newsom is recalled. You can choose a candidate regardless of how you vote on Question #1.
For this election, every voter who registers by August 30th will be mailed a ballot. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, September 14th, and received by September 17th. Send yours in as soon as possible, or return it to a drop box - see your county’s election website for a list of drop box locations.
You can check the status of your ballot here.
