Worried about The Sandman Netflix series

Post Body

Okay, I literally just started reading ā€˜The Sandmanā€™ so in no way am I an expert or even know all that happens. I am, however, a huge fan of film and TV, and when I heard they were coming out with a show for the comic/graphic novel, I wanted to make sure I read the source material before I saw the final product.
Of course Netflix has a bad habit of being inconsistent with what they put out. At first I was 100% excited for it and had no doubt that it would be great, but that was only based on imagery and (if Iā€™m being honest, mostly) casting. Iā€™m a big fan of Boyd Holbrook (especially in Narcos) and I have a lot of respect for Jenna Colemanā€™s acting. There a lot of other great actors cast in the show as well. They also decided to gender swap several characters, and although I tend to be iffy on that sort of thing in other adaptations as Iā€™m worried itā€™s more for pandering (for example if you swap the gender of a long established character, and it overall changes the characteristics and persona of the character, in a manner that makes it feel like a whole different character, then I personally donā€™t think it works and it would have been better to create a new character to fit that roll) I do believe, even with limited exposure to the series, that it will work and I will enjoy it.
As the release date gets closer however, Iā€™m having more and more worry as very little has been released in the way of trailers, as well as the adaptation of the comic to screen has gone through a rough one. I know Neil Gaiman has developed it for the screen and I do respect his screen writing abilities, as well as the fact that he has developed a lot of his own work for the screen rather than just having an authors ā€œbased on the bookā€ credit.

Overall, just worried that with Netflixā€™s latest track record, it will fall flat, although I canā€™t think of another production company that could feasibly adapt it for television in a good manner. I imagine itā€™s a very hard work to adapt.
