There is something that has been bothering me the last couple of days. I saw this map and it got me to thinking. I live in Kansas, one of the most Republican states in the country. We haven't voted for a Democrat in November since Lyndon Johnson, and it looks like most people are assuming that that will stay the same this year. I beg to differ, and here's why.
Back in March, Kansas went for Sanders and Cruz in our (very oddly run) caucus. No big deal, no real surprises. Except that Kansas, one of the most Republican states, went more for Sanders than any other state except his home Vermont until March 22, when Idaho and Utah voted for him. So why won't Kansas go for Trump this November if Sanders gets the nomination? Because the attitude of the state is changing. There are more Unaffiliated and Democrats than Republicans here. We have the single most unpopular governor in the country, even more unpopular than the guy murdering his citizens. Our governor has come out in support of Trump, and frankly, very few people want anything to do with doing what Brownback says. A lot of people will still vote for Trump since he has that little R next to his name, but I feel like enough people around here are scared of having someone so similar to the man that has basically destroyed our state for President.
So why is this important? One of the reddest states in the country, who hasn't voted for a Democrat in 50 years, could become a blue state in November if Sanders is the nominee. Sure, Kansas only has 6 electoral college votes, but every one counts, and it just shows that even in the heart of Republican country, people are tired of how things have been run and want change. That being said, if Clinton wins the nomination, I do wholeheartedly believe that Trump will win here, with no problem. No one likes her around here, at all. Neither she nor Bill really did anything to benefit anyone here, and we see that she is just a horrible person. If only more people saw that elsewhere.
TL;DR: Really Republican state could go for Sanders if he wins the nomination, defying what the political people are saying will happen.
