There has been a lot of focus on California as we head into the final leg of the primaries.
No one seems to be talking about the second largest prize on the horizon - New Jersey - and it's very important that we start. There are 126 delegates up for grabs in Jersey. That is more than twice as many delegates as Oregon, which is the next most delegate rich state still to vote. 18% of the delegates awarded on June 7th will be decided in NJ - that's 14% of all the delegates remaining.
NJ is not as favorable for Bernie as California, and the registration deadline for first time voters is fast approaching - May 17. We need to throw a lot of energy at it in the days to come.
I'll put it bluntly: we cannot afford to lose NJ. A large margin of victory in CA is important, but if we lose NJ, it won't be enough to erase our delegate deficit.
We do have one ace in the hole - Independent/Unaffiliated voters in NJ can declare themselves as Democrats at the polls on June 7th and vote for Bernie. WE NEED TO REACH AS MANY INDEPENDENTS AS POSSIBLE.
How can I help?
Canvass: If you're in state or in the area, this is the absolute best way to connect with potential/undecided voters. Coming from out of state and need somewhere to crash? Check out Bernie BNB.
Phonebank: Get on the phone and start talking to New Jerseyans about Bernie. If you've made it this far in the primary season and haven't phonebanked yet, it's time to get in the game.
Facebank: Literally the easiest way you can help get voting info out to people. Invite your extended network to informational events for their states in minutes. You can do it from anywhere in the world - if you do nothing else, do this.
Donate: CA and NJ are geographically about as far as you can get from each other in the contiguous US. This is going to be a pricey leg of the campaign. Bernie is considering not running TV ads in Cali, likely due in part to a funding crunch. This is not ok. TV ads are pretty much the only chance MSM consumers have of seeing his message without any sort of spin. We need to send Bernie into the final states as strong as possible. Give $5, $10, $27 or whatever you can afford.
