Is finding a dog hotel difficult in the Bay Area?

I’m considering getting a dog but I’ve heard it’s nearly impossible to find a dog hotel and that preference is for those who participate in daily doggy daycare. I’m concerned because I travel for work and personal reasons and don’t have a backup option (no local friend to dog sit).
What has been your experiences? Were you able to secure a dog hotel for trips including busy holidays like Christmas and Labor Day weekend? Did you need to sign up for a premium package?
