I was hired on as a server that would average 30-35 hours a week. The business has continue to cut my hours down lower and lower. It went from 25, to 14 and now 9. 9 hours a week. How is that livable? I have rent to pay and food. I cannot afford that in America. I addressed this with my manager and they continued to say there’s nothing they can do about it.. yet all the other employees are being scheduled 20 hours a week. I don’t know what to do. I just want to honestly quit because this is bs!
Background -
I initially told the employer I was going to work somewhere else. The plan didn’t follow through and told my employer I just want my schedule to go back to normal and I’m committed to staying here. They told me they didn’t have plans to hire someone new and they would plug me back in to the schedule like normal but it turns out they DID hire someone new and now we are overstaffed and they don’t care. The manager also doesn’t like me because I called him out last time for stealing my cash tips and he had to pay me back. Ever since then my hours constantly keep getting cut down. I also know that managers in the state aren’t allowed to make tips yet he makes 16 an hour plus tips. How is that not illegal?
I don’t know what else to do. People are telling me to file for unemployment but don’t quit but I don’t see how I can stay at a job that schedules me like this. I can’t afford anything and that’s so stressful.
Any advice would help.
