Negotiating to the higher end of a posted salary range
Post Body

I feel like any jobs I’ve applied to and been given an offer, they immediately offer me the lowest of their posted range. A job I’m applying to is posted as $80k-$130k and it would be a home run if I land it on the higher end and probably not so much on the lower end. What negotiating strategies work???

What I’ve considered is 1) emphasizing the role of travel I. The job and saying I simply want to be compensated more for all the additional time related to travel and 2) emphasizing that if I’m truly the best man for the job, (implied by them offering me the role) how would I not logically be at the higher end. Plus 3) mentioning I don’t want to put myself in a position where I’m looking to job-hop in 3 years for higher pay, but to stick with these folks longterm.

I’m not sure any of these is a great tactic and may be a waste of breath.

What works?
