Required qualities to enjoy cruising life?

Hello cruisers,
I've recently caught the sailing bug and signed up for lessons, but I have to wait for the lakes to thaw first. My wife and I are really into the idea of spending significant chunks of time (maybe a couple years) living on a boat with our two kids (5 and 9), doing what this sub is all about. Aside from all the technical knowledge and sailing skills, what would you say are good traits for someone to successfully survive the sailing lifestyle?
