Fellow overnight Frozen Food Stock Clerks...
Post Body

I started at Safeway about two months ago, and I’m going into my third month. When I first started, I was told by the night manager that the amount of food that we’re ordering is way more than what they usually order due to the pandemic. So the night manager, and supervisor who trained me, told me that I have two days to work an order, especially because of the extra food we’re now ordering, but about two weeks ago the SM told me that I only have one night to work an order, and that it is expected of me to break down 200 boxes in a single night. Is breaking down 200 boxes company policy? Or is the SM just trying to get me cram more work during my shift? The other day, the SM called me into the office to say that I need to pick up the pace, that I’ve been doing the orders too slow and that I need to stop taking two days to work an order. He says I need to break down the order on the day the truck arrives and then work the back stock and firm orders the next day. I’ve been doing my best to pick up the pace, and today I managed to knock out a huge order in record time (my personal time). Granted that I had help from a new coworker who got hired to be a floater for the night shift. My supervisor who trained me consistently tells me that I’m doing a great job, and not to worry what the SM says because the SM hasn’t been thinking clearly due to the stress he’s under cuz of the pandemic, and many of the other employees and supervisors keep telling me the same thing when I bring this subject up to them. These orders that come in are A LOT and I find it hard to believe that I’m expected to work an entire truck order in one day. I know with everything going on I can’t expect help breaking down and stocking the orders every time a truck comes in, but it honestly feels like I’m doing the work of 2-3 people all by myself. I’m worried that if I don’t somehow figure out a way to work an entire order within an 8-9 hour shift, I’m going to be let go when my probation is over, and this is my only job. I can understand breaking down a whole order in a single night when this pandemic wasn’t happening, but with the pandemic going on and the work load being doubled, I feel like I’m being given an impossible expectation to meet.

Is anyone else having a similar experience?
