Naraka, in the city of Astranka. [FSF promise to keep business deals good, and use it as a place for Project New Frontier]
Vice Chancellor Ovee straightens her dress as the man on stage talks on, a local celebrity who supports the FSF is giving a speech to a large audience.
"...And now, the Vice Chancellor of the New Republic, Varriss Of Ovee!" The voice calls spurring her into action as she puts on a smile and walks out on stage, waving gracefully to the applause.
"Thank you Doctor!" She shakes the man's hand and turns to the microphone. "And thank you Naraka for the warm welcome! I come before you today as representative of the Free Sectors Faction, here to endorse your own Captain Cuarto for the position of Free Sector's Senator for Naraka. Captain Cuarto stood with the New Republic, even when so many in the Centralist Party didn't. His history of service to Naraka and the New Republic speaks for itself as he has proven himself as a Commander, a father, and as a husband."
The man nods and Varriss shakes his hand. "Thank you Vice Chancellor"
"I thank you for your service!" Varriss replies warmly before turning back to the crowd "So why vote for the Free Sector's faction, well, the Centralist Party has been gutted by betrayal, and the ideals of it on the Galactic scale have shown a proclivity to Imperial corruption, but this does not mean that the ideals are completely bad, nor that your choice to follow them is inherently bad, but rather it is the scale of it where the issue lies."
"A Galactic Centralized Empire will always leave small worlds like this in the dust and prioritize the great jewels around the capital, it is the nature of it, so rather than support a government that will leech without repatriation and fall into such a trap, let us instead set ourselves to be self sufficient, making good ties with our neighbors and limiting the role of the Central authority to only things it must be involved with, and then let us run our planets in a way that works best for the people who live there. Naraka with the FSF will be allowed run itself however works best for its people, and not have to rely on Coruscant!"
"I see the successful NTTC operations here as proof of this planet's strength and ability to choose how to stand, and under the green of the FSF we look forward to continuing to help Naraka profit and expand with the NTTC, opening additional markets for the goods made here, and additional cooperation. We also hope to work with your government to include Naraka in our New Frontier program!" Varriss pauses "But for that, I must turn the stage over to Captain Cuarto!....."
Ord Radama, in the City of Ord Centralus,
"AND THEY'RE OFF FOLKS! TEARING AROUND THE TRACK!" The announcer shouts as the Pod Racers tear across the artificially illuminated landscape the crowd cheering with excitement as the screens show the racers cutting through massive cliffs and canyons.
Varriss watches from a booth with a sense of excitement and sadness. Her father had campaigned here many times and she had watched the vids of his speeches to prepare, his dramatic flair as he had mingled with the Racers and hyped up the crowd was exciting even now watching them again! Though she hadn't had quite that effect in her speech earlier, still popular but, her father's passion for the sport had been real and the crowd felt it in him! With her? She just liked the sport, but passion? No, she didn't have it. Still, the speech had gone well enough, short and simple, the usual good neighbor affairs, the promises to support local defense and industry, usual FSF talking points.
"AND RED LIGHTING JUST TOOK THE LEAD! WATCH THAT STREAK FLY!"
Varriss smiles and raises a glass across from the planetary governor. "What do you think now? Bonadan engines have power yes?"
"I'm certain when she returns to the finish line the pilot'll be making an endorsement." The governor replies, a touch of sadness in his voice
"You don't like me campaigning here."
"The Centralists did us right."
"And Valor did us right, and we did right by him. I'm not trying to get you to change much on this world, I just want a Free Sector's Senator. It works in your benefit, the FSF's entire point is to leave you alone, you have a good system here, it works! We don't want to change how Ord Radama runs, we want to protect it from someone else telling it how to run."
"Like?"
"The URA, the USF, the RRN, any of them. They'll take power and try and tell Ord Radama how it should be run, or set the foundations for tyranny. If they get a majority I don't predict it'll be long until they're trying to take over every social program in the galaxy,"
"And that's bad?"
"You know that kind of power is only good when you're in charge of it, do you really trust the others?"
"The Centralist party still exists."
"As a shattered shell, likely to roll up with one of the major factions."
"I'll think on it"
"I hope to have earned your vote."
"ZIP ZICKS IS PULLING UP ON LIGHTNING! THEY'RE NECK AND NECK AROUND THE SECOND TURN!"
Arda 2, City of Thimos
"Governor Voss, you remained with the New Republic, you welcomed the RRR, I have personally aided Senator Valor on many occasions, surely there must be a spark of cooperation."
The man nods slowly, his eyes drawn to a spinning holographic map "Senator Valor, you say that as if it benefits your case."
"It does." Varriss states looking out the window. "No matter what he did or didn't do, the FSF has shown to be good neighbors and friends. We offer a strong hand of friendship, not rule, friendship."
"The Centralists promised to respect our freedom and also give us strength."
"And we plan to deliver. But not in a framework that makes mass defection to the Empire possible."
"I suppose your droid armies are more loyal."
"And far more affordable for long term security." Varriss adds, turning back and setting an empty whine glass on the table, "We can protect you, and leave you alone."
"Perhaps we like our business dealings with the Centralists, the NTTC is quite profitable for our entire region."
"And are the Free Sectors known for blocking business? If anything we facilitate trade, if the Centralists are so petty as to lose trade with you just because your people vote for the Free Sectors, then the Centralists don't deserve your business anyways."
"And what will you speak to the people about tomorrow?"
"The same things we're talking about, and you're one of the people are you not? In a leadership role yes, but still one of them."
"Anything else?"
"The FSF would like to bring project New Frontiers to Arda One and Three, we have some companies willing to invest in the terraforming as part of the resettlement."
"That's an investment."
"We're good at environmental projects. You can have a look at how things are going on Raxus Prime or Bonadan to see that."
"And how does New Frontiers benefit us?"
"A sustainable population added to two planets you influence, core world educated, with industry to make them self sufficient, and an industry to export? That's not something to shake a finger at."
The Governor thinks for a moment. "Give your speech, we'll see what the people think."
"Can we expect an endorsement from you?"
"As a citizen of Arda, I've not decided who I'm voting for yet."
Lola Sayu. The Citadel
"My Lady, it's dangerous!" A droid calls out as Varriss glances down the cliff at the acidic lake below them.
"Thank you Commander." She replies, stepping away and walking towards the tall dagger-like building"
"We've been operating since the Clone War! Yup! We even had a Jedi, for awhile, then a Jedi Warrior came and rescued the kid, but we received new orders. Apparently we're now part of a Republic or something? Whatever, the Centralists just left us alone and let us hold prisoners." The old OOM Unit babbles, leading her and her B1-SA Units into the facility. "Not that I am complaining, well, I could use an oil bath but other than that no complaining."
"So you droids have been running the facility all this time?"
"Roger Roger."
"So then you know the planet well."
"I guess."
"Besides the prison, is there anything valuable here?"
"Well the planet keeps falling apart is the problem, long term planning is impossible when it's gradually pulling apart. There's a lot of mineral wealth and the Soil is really good for agriculture, in fact some of us have taken it up as a hobby, but, well, the planet was discovered about six hundred years ago, since then it's lost ten percent of its mass and become far more unstable, if you could get it to quit falling apart it might be worth doing something with it." The droid shrugs
"Well, we can see what we can do."
"Horay! If you do, if not, that's fine too I suppose."
Vjun. Former Centralist Command Center.
"This world is on the edge of terraforming completion, it will not be hard to complete and end the acidic rain, all it requires is the decision to do it, and with our project New Frontiers, I believe that willpower has been found. Repairs for the atmosphere will allow it to hold a population again, and following our calculations, it should be possible within only a few years,"
Varriss announces to the Centralist Command Center
"I don't know about you, but that sounds to me like a good use of the place. Now, as it stands, the Centralist Party is shattered, and this location holds no value to you. We'd like to have it, to do something with. Your garrison has stood with the New Republic, but I'm certain you have better places you'd rather be, and if not, then we're glad to help transform this place into a place actually worth guarding. But for that, we would like for you to officially hand over command of the planet to us."
"We'll need some time to consider this." Colonel Dearing replies nodding slowly.
"Of course, take all the time you need. I will be carrying on shortly, but the RRR Garrison will remain so long as we are at war."
Killun 71. 500 meters above the surface
"Ma'am, do we have time for this?" An OOM unit asks holding on tight to the grip of the open LAAT roof.
"I just want to look!" Varriss replies looking out the window. "It wouldn't be easy, we could run metros through there, get the Jelucan experts involved."
"What would be the point?"
Varriss nods slowly. "We'll include it as a back up planet, once we run out of better ones for New Frontiers. Okay take us back up. Oh, and send a garrison to secure the old Imperial listening posts."
