"Excuse me Lady Santhe, your twelve-thirty appointment is here." A voice pages over the intercom as Valles Santhe glances up from her reports of scouts from the New Republic, she had expected some scouts but would still need to write a demanding letter, but, after the meeting.
"Send them in Camilla." She orders back over the intercom.
The office door opens and a Mirilarian in a resplendent short green dress and long black cape enters the room, Her head is covered in a wide and extravagant Mirilarian headpiece and her face is covered by a beaded veil.
"Ms. Luminara, welcome to Santhe Sienar!" She greets, matching the respectful bow and beckoning her guest to a seat. "I must admit I was surprised to see the offer you were putting forward, a controlling interest in MRR, now that....." Santhe's voice trails off as the woman raises her veil. "Oh."
Varriss Of Ovee smiles. "Don't call security, I'm here as a friend."
"You lied to get into my office, not very friendly behavior."
"You didn't return Representative Scintel's letter, let's call it even."
Valles Sits down at her desk and smiles slightly. "Very well. You made quite a trip, and at great risk to yourself, so you must have a fantastic offer."
"Indeed, but first." Varriss unclips an L0LA59 droid from her belt and lets it take off from her hand. The droid flies up to the ceiling and undoes a screw holding a light fixture in place. "Let's wait until the bugs are gone."
"This office is swept daily!"
"By?"
Valles's face frowns as a screw falls from the ceiling and into Varriss's outstretched hand, the bottom half is clearly an antenna. "Oh dear. I will have to have a meeting with my security chief."
Varriss smiles as her droid lands in her palm. "I've already shut down the bug on the receiving end in her office. Such a pity she decided to commit suicide."
"The position is quite stressful." Valles nods in agreement. "Zsinj or her own initiative?"
"Can't say, neither can she."
Valles taps an intercom. "Camilla dear, please bring in some refreshments for myself and our guest, and delay my next appointment."
A secretary enters carrying a tray and sets it on the desk before bowing and leaving.
"To business shall we?" Valles asks, pouring herself and Varriss a cup of tea. "Your chances of escape are quite slim if I call security."
"Thank you." She replies, drinking the tea at the same time as Valles and tasting the slow-acting poison in it. "My odds are Better than you would think." Varriss tilts her headpiece to reveal the lightsaber hanging as an ornament on the back. "Jedi not being common anymore has its advantages." She grins. "But I'd prefer not to fight my way out, so, our deal." Varriss motions for her droid, which plays a holorecording of TIE bombers being resupplied on Emmer.
"Where did you get that?"
"Civilian photographers. Now let's let that be the last lie in this room."
"That's very nice easily faked footage you have."
Varriss nods. "Agreed, but you know as well as I know that Zsinj is doomed, he's crashing and burning, his area of control is falling apart and while he may make the fight painful, he is doomed."
"And we are neutral."
"A term often used to simply mean 'waiting to see who will win. Now is your chance, we need ships and fighters for the final push, the Free Sectors Faction is the faction that best supports your independent nature, you'll have access to the markets of the New Republic, and the protections of the New Republic Constitution. You don't want to be on the outside when the victory is had."
"And what of the Imperial remains? And the Imperial supporters in the Tion Governments?"
"You will be under the protection in the long term of the RRR and the New Republic, in the short term, the remnant is disorganized and on the run, and we don't ask for immediate overt support. Only for your support when the time is right, which gives you time to clean your house."
"And should I refuse?"
"The New Republic tax code will likely not meet the needs of everything they want to spend money on, some of the senators have unlimited wants and no concept of budget, applying trade tariffs to worlds that refuse to join the New Republic to help make up revenue would easily pass in the Senate, even if I vote against them."
"You must try the cheese," Valles says abruptly, cutting a slice and putting it on a cracker. "It's from a farm that only supplies cheese to my family, it is delightful," she says, cutting a slice for herself and taking a bite of it.
Varriss takes a bite, the antidote. "It's wonderful. Shall we discuss the specifics?"
(TLDR: Varriss met with Valles Santhe about getting Tion on board as part of the FSF.)
