Partly funded by the Japanese government, the Kichijiya Survey, a private prospective survey conducted by Kichijiya, Japan's oldest petroleum company, will be aiming at exploring the geological hydrocarbon prospects of the 3 most potential Chinese regions as identified in the Xinjiang basin, the Shaanxi basin and the Manchurian basins. After that, surveys will also be taken in Sakhalin and Outer Manchuria. The surveys will be conducted in 2 stages. Firstly, gravity seismic surveys would be conducted, followed up by drilling wells up to 35km deep in order to find possible reserves of oil in areas where asphalt, gas or other hydrocarbon reserves are reasonably identified.
