Today, the Italian Prime Minister, with the support of the King, have announced that humanitarian efforts shall be undertaken, sending much needed food to the Yugoslavian people. Prime Minister Nitti has this to say to the people:
We have been contacted recently, with some truly distressing news. It would seem, the French Republic has abandoned the Yugoslavian people to starve, cutting off lines of food during this famine they are suffering. While there is no love lost between the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the Kingdom of Italia, we can not, in good conscious allow their people to starve, along with the many Italians who currently live in their land. Thus, we have begun the process to send food to be purchased in Yugoslavia, we will sell this food at a reduced price to the Yugoslavians, with the government itself repaying the loss to the farmers to ensure their livelihoods are maintained.
Thus, rail cars and trucks filled with food have been set on their path to Yugoslavia, offering a reduced price to what they would normally be, and the farmers being payed back by the Italian government. In Parliament, when this was brought up, PM Nitti said
Gentlemen, with this effort, Italy is a prime position to not only gain lands from the Yugoslavs, but also to spread our influence over not only them, but the Balkans as a whole. Besides, they might prove useful should the Albanians ever try to expel their Prince.
As the food begins to travel, a diplomat sent to oversea this effort is told to make contact with the Yugoslavian government. Meeting with the highest member of the government he can, hopefully the King himself, and is told to ask
Your Highness, it is an honor to be in your magnificent presence. I have been sent by His Majesty, King Victor Emmanuel III di Savoia, to oversee the food being sent to assist your glorious Kingdom. However, His Majesty is curious, what could have caused the French to suddenly pull their food shipments from this beautiful land? If you would prefer to keep such things between Yourself and the French Republic however, His Majesty understands.
