Need Some Help

I am looking for a good self defense sword to carry around when I am walking on public property. The one sword I thought about was what Shadiversity recommended. And one of the options was the Rapier. Now I understand that it is a long type of weapon, which is what I prefer, to keep people at a distance. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? I am looking forward to hearing from yall.
