ESPECIALLY in this community. Posters have used words like “uppity” which has a long history of racist undertones directed at black women, as well as “stuck up”. Where do you get off? It's laughable because before she was introduced, this sub had nothing but hate and apathy for Velasco & Munch, but let a black woman walk and and suddenly they're the darlings of the show? And why, because Churlish refused to go alone with the Blue Code of Silence for Velasco? Velasco lied and Churlish didn't want to be compromised. Why is that wrong? And not to mention the loaded microagressions towards her character. She's ambitions and has mapped out a future for herself. So she's not in the Squad room to make friends, so what? When did that become a cardinal sin? One can't even accuse her of being a bad detective, or even uncaring because she's shown that she's able to emotionally connect with victims. The one things she's guilty of is that she's unwilling to kiss up & play office politics .

But oh, God forbid a black woman not do her damnedest to win the popularity contest. I'm sure Jasmine Batchelor is no stranger to navigating the world as an UNAMBIGUOUS BLACK WOMAN, and neither is Churlish in the New York City Police Department. To attain a record like hers (Churlish) doesn't come with breaking the rules or being a brown - noser, it comes with having a fixed mindset and a no-no sense attitude coupled with the knowledge that you have to work 10× harder to prove yourself. Because we all know what when crap goes down, it's usually Black people who are first on the chopping block. As a Black woman myself who cares very little about superficial relationships, this hit home for me. Pretty sure if Churlish had been WHITE, people would be lauding her for having integrity. It's a pity this sub can't direct that same grace to Batchelor. But I can't say I'm surprised; MISOGYNOIR continues to permeate all sectors of society.
