I really enjoyed the movie overall. I thought it was truly frightening and creepy without relying on gore or shock scares. The ghost was designed quite well, and even though I felt she was over-revealed, she never really lost her creep factor.

Thinking back, I also realized that the movie passes the Bechdel test with flying colors because there are mostly women on screen (two of them are little girls but still). The boyfriend character is out of commission or offscreen for much of the movie, leaving the girlfriend and little girls together for the majority along with the ghost (also female) and the aunt character.

Speaking of, I really liked the girlfriend character, Annabel. I felt like she didn't easily fit into any of the female character tropes I usually see. She felt fleshed out and real to me. I liked her. One of my favorite things was her introduction scene where she is sitting in the bathroom looking at a pregnancy test, which is negative. I was thinking to myself, "Oh, here we go, she's going to be all sad because all she wants are some kids", but no! She sees the negative result and celebrates saying "Oh, thank god." Loved that because it went against what I expected.

I also really liked that even though I saw the trailer, I didn't know everything about the movie. For example, SPOILER I thought the ghost was the girl's actual mother, but in fact, it was not.

tl;dr: The scares were well done, the movie was creepy and stayed with me, it passed the Bechdel test hardcore, and the female characters were all fleshed out and well developed. I give this movie my seal of approval.
