Men’s briefs pilling after first use

I recently bought several briefs and boxer briefs from the men’s collection. I love how soft and comfortable they are, however they have been pilling a lot after their first use and wash. Keep in mind that I hand wash and air dry them. Is this amount of pilling normal with skims underwear?? Not sure if it’s because of the friction closer to the crotch area or they aren’t the best quality.
