Cisgendered single straight white male. 6'1", glasses, thinning hair. I don't expect much from Reddit. With this post I'm looking for friendship first and foremost, though possibly a monogamous relationship (with a woman) could develop out of that.
I work as a substitute teacher. I'm on the introverted, quiet side—but the flip-side of that is that I can be blunt and direct sometimes, too, and I have no problem addressing a group.
I'm a bookish, literary, intellectual type. Given to philosophical musings. Interests include: literary and popular culture; cinema and art; philosophy and psychoanalysis; politics and theology; history and sociology. I don't necessarily have deep or broad knowledge in any of these areas. (Of these areas, movies and literature are what I know most about.) But anyway, they're an indication of where my sensibilities and head are generally at.
Lately I've been enjoying the political horserace quite a bit (a bit of a guilty pleasure, I suppose, but a window into the human soul nonetheless). I regularly consume podcasts of various kinds, many of them having to do with politics and/or political theory.
My one really serious hobby these days is writing (mostly these days it seems poems, sometimes fiction). I am stupid like a writer—much of my life seems spent in a seemly haphazard, undisciplined, mad scramble to fire my imagination by reading things and watching things and thinking about things that have little to no practical value but that I feel obscurely might incite a breakthrough in some writing piece or other that I'm pursuing. I take it this is a common madness that afflicts those who seek the favor of the Muse but I could be wrong. ;p
Other pursuits: taking long meandering walks through San Francisco; observing urban flora and fauna.
The purpose of this particular post is to try and reach interesting and interested people in my area who can meet in person, hang out, talk, walk, and so on. Check my profile page for pics and a voice clip. I apologize in advance if I ignore your chat or message. Sorry but that's my right. I get ignored plenty of times too, and in my experience it hurts significantly less than rejection (where the person replies saying thanks but no thanks). I wish everyone the best.
