The name 'listentobadbooks' literally comes from the name of the band I was listening to when I made the account and since then, also listen to audiobooks! Sometimes the only thing that saves the story is the narrator's voice keeping me company while I clean or go about my daily business!
INTRO
Cheers and sorry to get ahead of myself! I'm a 30/M that chases whims in life because adventure is usually fun! And by whims, I'm not saying I'm the kind who leaves the country every other month, but I do enjoy the occasional road trip, or a random week off to fly to a different city for a week when I have time. What I do mean is chasing a food desire to a different part of the Bay just because and dragging whoever wants to go in that moment. I like checking out random Meetups to challenge my comfort zones, and it has brought me to experiences I never would have had otherwise. There's always time for a bookstore, a garage sale, hunting down some childhood memory, or an ube milkshake at Lucky Chances at 2AM. Recently, someone asked if my life is tiring because it seems like so much to do. My therapist said, "Is it a lot to you? If not, then you and her just have different tolerances and that's okay. Keep doing the things that make you happy and just accept rest and burnout when you need!"
WHAT
Am I doing here? Well, I'm doing laundry and killing time before the next load's done because I'm going to go for a short hike for a nice view. While I go do all of that, I wanted to leave a post up in case my next worthwhile friend, ideally my next best friend, is also on Reddit and would like to say hi. I'm looking for a friend who has a whole kind of life for themselves but is missing a person who just makes them feel understood about their normal life. A friend that I just click with and could meet up with or have phone calls with every so often to catch up and feel like we haven't missed a beat. Or even that kind of best friend where you are almost always messaging and it never gets old. That all comes down to the chaotic compatibility just being there and I'm happy to be an open book to see if that's there.
WHERE
I'm in the Bay Area, usually in the East Bay, but work in downtown SF, and visit friends all over. I love driving around and being that person that gets all the kids in the van and talks about whatever the life crisis of the week is. If you're a foodie, maybe we can start mapping out or next food adventure(s) after work?
WHY
I love my friends and the people in my life and the life I've built. But I just am at that place where I need connections that aren't legacy. I want to write new stories from nothing, not old experiences. People are adventures the same way getting an event planned can be. And I want adventures that aren't just places, but people. And I heard that adventure is definitely out there! So, shoot me a chat?
OTHER NOTES / TL;DR
6'0", Southeast Asian, pan, flexible working day job exec, yellow and a soft orange like a sunset are favorite colors, am a Leo, very much an ambivert and was last an INFP, but historically an ANTP, reads, writes, can't ride a bike, can be boundlessly empathetic, and am often told I subvert pretense.
Oh, and I don't have any plans for the holidays since I'm not seeing family, so if you're also just as disparate, maybe we can cook our own Christmas dinners and watch a yule log on the TV or something else platonic. My favorite Christmas movie is Olive the Other Reindeer and I'd love to hear what your comfort show or movie is!
