Seriously. It's just that simple.
I'm visiting the Bay Area for work, have some downtime this afternoon, and don't know anyone in the area.
So my options are hanging out in my hotel, getting food on my own, or meeting someone new and interesting.
That last one seems the most interesting. Why not take that chance?
Let's message, swap SFW pics, figure out where to grab coffee or lunch, and... that's it. We'll eat and talk and become good friends. This isn't some creepy bait-and-switch. I would just prefer chatting with a new friend than ordering dinner alone :)
If it helps, I've met people from Reddit before and it's (almost) always a positive experience. I'm educated and love my work. I'm respectful of people I'm around. I read a lot. I love sharing stories. If I learn something new, even better.
Coffee/drinks would be on me, obviously.
