Dreams for 2024 and beyond
Post Body

Haters are gonna hate....I know some people on here will find flaws to pick at in my plan, but it's fun anyways! Using MLBTR contract predictions for Free Agents, and the MLB trade value simulator website I've constructed my dream offseason for 2024.

According to Roster Resource, our current payroll stands at about $157M. The 2024 CBT Threshold is $237M but let's assume that the Giants stop at their 2023 payroll which was $196M. With those parameters, here are my moves:

  1. Sign Shota Imanaga (looks like this is already happening). MLBTR has him at a $85M contract over 5 years, which seems too low, so for safety and simplicity let's round up to an AAV of $20M (putting total projected payroll at $177M)
  2. Trade for Ha Song Kim. Allow him to be the left side of the infield insurance rather than overpay for Matt Chapman and loose a draft pick. My proposed trade based on the trade simulator website would be: Casey Schmidt (San Diego native, would become SD's backup SS/3B) Tristan Beck Will Bednar. Kim has a salary of about $7M (which would put the Giants payroll up to $184M)
  3. Trade for Randy Arozarena. He passes all the vibe checks, and would bring the heat if the Giants made it to the postseason. Based on the (super accurate / sarcasm) MLB trade simulator I've proposed a straight trade of Luis Matos for Randy Arozarena (who have almost identical trade values). I'm sorry to all the Matos fans but I am not really buying into the Matos hype. I know he's young and controllable, but remember when we were all hyped on a 22 Heliot Ramos? Prospects take a long time to develop, and there's very little certainty. Arozarena is already a proven player who is durable and consistent, but the Rays will be too cheap to afford all his arbitration years. He is also due to get a contract of $7M (putting my hypothetical Giants payroll at $191M)

This leaves the Giants still having about $5M to play with and fill other roster holes before surpassing their 2023 payrolls. COME ON Frahan, get these three moves done and we'll have a playoff caliber roster. I admit that the MLB trade values simulator is flawed, but I don't see Arozarena and Kim costing too much prospect capital, and those two guys along with the signing of Imanga allows you to field a competitive roster without signing any qualifying offer players and loosing draft picks or international pool money.

What's your dream offseason from this point on? Let the games commence!
