Do site ranks drop when lots of outbound links are removed?

Hi, so I have a website which was currently ranking for lots of keywords on first and second page, but recently I had removed lot of outbound links(around 1000 links) which was linking to a theme website from my website.

This website link remained in footer during development stage, and I recently realised to remove it and hence I got it removed from my website.

Today, several of my ranks have dropped a page below, and there were no changes done except for the removal of outbound links.

Is the drop due to removal of outbound links?
